Subject

Scotland

Description

Letter from the nuncio to France, Carlo Roberti de' Vittori, to PF. He writes regarding a letter recieved from PF, dated the 2 October [1666], in which he is ordered to send John White to Scotland. However, since White was not in Paris but in Troyes, the nuncio called one of the other priests of CM and told him the orders of PF. He answered that John White had been ill for a long time and was still recovering, but that the superior [René Alméras] would have him come anyway; the latter has confirmed this. In his message which is attached to this letter (see SOCG 308, f. 281r (database item 345)), the nuncio writes that immediately after he arrives, he will give White the letter and patents of PF, and when he is ready to depart give him the 30 scudi as ordered by PF. In PF meeting on 29 November 1666 the cardinals decide that the nuncio should be anwered to send him [John White] as soon as possible. The letter dated 5 November 1666.
Date discussed, 1666-11-29
Additional comments
The attached file is not from the superior himself [René Alméras] but from another priest of the CM, Edmond Jolly (see SOCG 308, f. 281r (database item 345)).
