Second petition on behalf of CM requesting approval in 1628; it repeats the demands of the first petition and adds two new clauses (singled out in the PF notes on 62r). The additions underline that: a) the priests would do their work free of charge; and b) the superior would have powers of decision regarding the selection, dispatch, and dismissal of members from CM.

Additional comments

The second 1628 petition for the approval of CM and the related letters of recommendation from the nuncio, king, and queen of France were not discussed together with the first petition on 22 August 1628, but two PF meetings later, on 25 September 1628, most likely because of post delays. Coppo wonders if Secretary Ingoli might have intentionally left aside these newer materials, even if they arrived before the 22 August congregation (see A. Coppo, 'Documenti inediti per la storia della Congregazione della Missione, presso l'archivio della S. C. 'De Propaganda Fide'', Annali della Missione 79:3-4 (1972), 37-65, here 50), but there is no evidence to that effect other than the relation showing that Ingoli had already reached a (negative) conclusion about the matter before the meeting of 22 August (see database item 10).
