Subject

Description

Letter from the nuncio to France, Nicolò Guidi di Bagno to PF, reporting that Gerard Brin has just left for Scotland, in order to check if the information coming from William Ballantyne about the progress of the mission is reliable; the nuncio writes that he contributed to the trip as much as he was able to. Regarding John Walker's return from Scotland, the nuncio writes that he trusts his explanation (which he attaches to this letter), even though it is very difficult to know if those who work so far away are always truthful. The nuncio also reports Walker's claim that he had already sent letters to PF after his arrival in France. PF summary on the back of the letter states that Walker has returned to France on the orders of his prefect, in order to finish a book that he had begun to write; Walker's book is in response to very anti-Catholic work already produced, and he hopes that PF will help to have it printed. The letter is signed and dated 12 May 1656.
Additional comments
