Subject

Retirement missionaries
Description
Copy of a letter from John Walker to the procurator of the Scottish mission in Rome, William Lesley. He writes to have received a letter from the procurator. With this letter Walker wants to underline a few points made in his letter to PF so that Lesley can clarify these for PF. He has left this letter for PF open, so that Lesley can first read it himself. The most important issues are: a) the enormous need of books; b) the achievements of Francis White in the Highlands; and c)the problem of housing within Scotland (particularly in Edinburgh), and outside Scotland, regarding establishing a place where missionaries can retire. He also notes that he has sent a letter to Patrizio Coneo, which will tell Lesley more about the mission. The original letter is dated 16 July 1665.
