Title
Letter from PF to John White, 1666-10-02, [Rome]
Subject
Scotland
Description
Letter from PF to Gio' Bianchi [John White]. The prefect of the mission of Scotland [Alexander Winster] has written to PF several times about the need of missionaries, especially in the Highlands. They speak a different language in the Highlands to that in the Lowlands; it is this reason why it is hard to find missionaries. They have asked John White to become a missionary to help his brother Franc'o Bianchi [Francis White], and PF has heard about John White's willingness to help the spiritual well-being of his country. They declared him missionary according to the attached patents. They have also asked him to prepare himself for the travel, by which he has to present himself to the nuncio [Carlo Roberti de' Vittori]. The nuncio will give him more precise instructions, and will provide him with travelling money. Eventually PF will give him the provisions that the other missionaries have also received.
