Subject

Tunis

Slaves (Christian)

Description

Letter from PF to the vicar apostolic of Tunis [Jean Le Vacher]. Jean Le Vacher. To help the slaves in Tunis and Tripoli in their spiritual needs, they give Le Vacher permission to grant faculties for three years to secular and regular priest approved by himself; PF trusts Le Vachers judgement on whether he believes the candidates to be worthy of the greater service of God. The Indulgence for the slaves that confess during specific days, has been accepted by the pope, and will be sent soon.
Additional comments
The letter was probably written between 29 April 1666 and 26 June 1666. Elsewhere they name (besides Tunis and Tripoli), Algiers as a city to whom the indulgences would also apply, see: APF Lettere 51, 19r (database item 848).
