Seravezza case
Description
An account of the resource
Antonio Di Seravezza who calls himself vicar general, issues a decree for all the Christians and "majordomos" of S. Antonio, against D. Gio' [Giovanni] Luca. Luca has not been able to show his missionary license and he has been condemend by his bishop, who forbade him to say mass. Therefore Antonio Di Seravezza could not give him the required license. After Di Seravezza's departure from Tunis, Luca still said mass; with this decree however, he is suspended from all priestly duties. The decree has to be made public in all the bagnos so that no one can claim to be ignorant. A copy will also be sent to Rome [probably this one].
Date discussed: 1671-08-06
Additional comments
According to the corresponding ACTA, APF ACTA 41 305r, 330r-338r, Antonio Di Seravezza does not have the right to call himself vicar general nor issue a decree.
D. Gio' Luca is possibly Gioseppe Merino della Pantellaria, however it also be one Giovanni Luca Bianco. Another possibility is that these two are the same person.

Seravezza case
Description
An account of the resource
Letter from Antonio Di Seravezza to Giovanni Battista Roletti. He writes that he is happy to have received news about his friends. He also reports that the Tunis mission is suffering due to his abscence, and that has a conflict with the consul. Its noted that Antonio Di Seravezza already had orders to go to "Musu" di Martel, so that justice may be done. He has also brought letters to show this to Martel, and he has sent copies of these letters to Rome. He asks Roletti not to speak about the matter to anybody, as he himself will go to Rome to plead his case before the pope. Di Seravezza also writes that he would have never claimed the title of vicar general if he had not received it from PF. He is sorry to hear that some Christians [in Tunis] do not follow the orders of PF.
Date discussed: 1671-08-06
Additional comments
From the letter of Luigi Da Palermo, APF SOCG 430 234r-v (database item 726), it becomes clear that this Musu di Martel probably lived in France.

Description
An account of the resource
Letter from Giuseppe Maria da Genoa, prefect of the Capuchin mission in Tabarca, offering details on many local issues (relative to Tabarca, Carthage, and the Capuchin mission in the region), but also relays news from Algiers by way of Julien Guérin of Tunis. According to Brother Giuseppe Maria, Guérin wrote to him, in a letter dated 22 November, that two priests of his company had arrived in Algiers, together with a Franciscan slave. The news gladened Brother Giuseppe Maria, who had previously heard that only one ignorant slave priest had remained in Algiers, because the rest had either died of the plague or returned to their home countries. Brother Giuseppe Maria himself tried to go to Algiers but was not able to do so, because transportation and communication had been interrupted between Tabarca and the plague-striken city. He hopes to be able to arrive there soon. PF note does not mention any decision or response.

Description
An account of the resource
Letter from Giuseppe Maria da Genoa, prefect of the Capuchin mission in Tabarca, mentioning, among other things, the conflict in Tunis between Julien Guérin and a Jesuit Father from Naples (a senior chaplain of the king of Spain), called d'Angelo. d'Angelo seemingly tried to gain some income from the church in his possession (the church of St. Anthony), due to which Guérin chased him away, "under the pretext of service without merchandise." Brother Giuseppe Maria tried to reconcile the two of them, but without much success, what with the two being from "rival" nations, and Father Angelo feeling that he had been wronged and holding a grudge against Guérin. Moreover, Guérin questioned the authority of Brother Giuseppe Maria in the matter, "as if he was in the wrong and did not want me [Giuseppe] to interfere," and since Brother Giuseppe Maria had not received the patent for the vicarate of Carthage, which he had been promised by PF, he did not want to interfere any further, other than by the force of words and entreaties to peace. PF note does not mention any decision or response.
Date received 1648-06-06

Description
An account of the resource
Letter from Luigi Da Palermo to PF. Luigi writes that after one year in slavery, he now wants to use the little talent he has for the church. He was freed by Giovanni LeVascher [Jean Le Vacher] who paid 500 of the 700 patacche. Le Vacher has given him the faculties of vicar apostolic of Tunis, vicar of Carthage, and archbishop of Tunis for three years. In Tabarca, Luigi has met Antonio Di Seravezza, who could not stay in Tunis, because of conflict with the French consul [Jean Ambrozin]. Antonio Di Seravezza calls himself vicar general of Africa, but he refused to show Luigi his faculties or his seal, and then he left for Italy. Luigi himself will continue with his travel to Tunis.
