Copy of a letter from PF to Jean Le Vacher, vicar apostolic in Tunis. Le Vacher is asked for information about Father Guglelo [William] Lull, who is being held captive in Algiers. Lull has asked PF for a letter of recommendation for Padri del Riscatto, so that they will help him either by ransoming him, or by providing him with money for his subsistence. If Le Vacher finds that Lull is really assisting the Christian slaves in Algiers, as he asserts, then Le Vacher should help and encourage him in every possible way. The letter dated 5 June 1651.

An account of the resource
Letter from PF to the vicar apostolic of Tunis [Jean Le Vacher]. The Dominican priest Silvestro Bandini was made a slave and brought to Tunis (when leaving Armenia). He reported the great need of priests in Tunis, and PF ask Le Vacher to grant him the faculties required to help the Christian slaves. Le Vacher is warned however, that if rumors of Bandini celebrating mass more than once a week are true, he should not be granted the faculties. PF states that Bandini should only be granted a faculty which describes precisely the time, place and functions; if Bandini abuses his faculties, then they should be revoked.

Description
An account of the resource
Letter from PF to Andrea Grella, a slave in Tunis. PF regrets the difficult situation that Andrea Grella (and the other slaves), find themselves in. New pains have also been added to Grella, of which he is not to blame; one example is the money that the Bey wants to be restored from the Maltese captains [Vincenzo Piccinini and Francesco and Giuseppe Guevara]. Fortunately the money has been retrieved in Rome, and the Maltese admitted to having the money, and returned it without any problems. They apologized for not going to Messina (as had been originally planned), and for not knowing that the slave (for whose freedom the money should have been used), had already been freed. Therefore it should be made clear to the Bey that the money is ready for collection, and that he should send someone to retrieve it. PF does not want to risk sending it themselves. PF also wants to make clear that the money had not been returned because of the threats made by the Bey; his threats were very well known, and have hurt the poor slaves staying in Barbary. PF also does not want to react in the same way to similar cases, that are often very frequent within the Turkish dominion; the situation was amended as it happened to take place in Rome, and the authorities of the city decided to impose justice. They hope that this will inspire the Bey and other Turkish officials to give justice themselves, for the Christians in their regions.

He is told that he will not be given the faculties that allow him to keep Father Giuseppe della Pantellaria from misbehaving, but that PF has ordered Jean Le Vacher, vicar apostolic in Algiers, to remedy the issue. An account of the resource
Letter from Jean Le Vacher (apostolic vicar in Algiers) to Jean Ambrozin (the French consul in Tunis), in which he lets the consul know that PF is making an inquiry into Ambrozin's activities, as there have been several complaints against him. Le Vacher had been asked by PF to provide a report about the situation, but since he is not in Tunis, he cannot do so, and he asks Ambrozin to provide the information himself. Le Vacher sends to Ambrozin the Capuchin father "Louys Da Palermo" (Luigi Da Palermo), who will give Ambrozin a copy of the letter that Le Vacher received from PF and will write a report on this subject. Le Vacher hopes that Ambrozin will not take to heart the bad reports made against him, and that he will be able to provide the necessary information to dispel the rumors. As soon as Luigi Da Palermo sends him his report, Le Vacher will forward it to PF, but not without adding his own testimony to the virtue of Ambrozin, which he has known for so many years.

Description
An account of the resource
Antonio Di Seravezza who calls himself vicar general, issues a decree for all the Christians and "majordomos" of S. Antonio, against D. Gio' [Giovanni] Luca. Luca has not been able to show his missionary license and he has been condemend by his bishop, who forbade him to say mass. Therefore Antonio Di Seravezza could not give him the required license. After Di Seravezza's departure from Tunis, Luca still said mass; with this decree however, he is suspended from all priestly duties. The decree has to be made public in all the bagnos so that no one can claim to be ignorant. A copy will also be sent to Rome [probably this one].
Date discussed: 1671-08-06
Additional comments
According to the corresponding ACTA, APF ACTA 41 305r, 330r-338r, Antonio Di Seravezza does not have the right to call himself vicar general nor issue a decree.
D. Gio' Luca is possibly Gioseppe Merino della Pantellaria, however it also be one Giovanni Luca Bianco. Another possibility is that these two are the same person.

The letter states that the provicar's message was also forwarded to the inquisitor of Malta. The letter dated 4 July 1672.

An account of the resource
Letter from Jean Le Vacher to Giuseppe Maria Da Bologna. On 17 September, Le Vacher received Da Bologna's letter dated 24 August, to which he has not answered yet for two reasons. First of all, he lacked the proper commodities, and secondly, because of his illness. Le Vacher feels very sorry for the persecution of Da Bologna, and for his companions and slave priests, who are regulars as well as seculars. The priest who has been enslaved again, should not be allowed to celebrate mass and administer the sacraments, before he is deamed capable to do so. Da Bologna should also make sure that the priest Augusten Antonio Calendino Da Cosensa does not keep a tavern; as a priest he was never actually allowed to do this. Because there are enough priests in Tunis, and because Father Cherubino [Cherubino Da Frascati] is not able to work, it would be of use to send some companions back to Rome. Maybe that way the persecutions against the slave priests (as well against Da Bologna and his missionaries), will lessen.

The date is either 17 or 18 October, but the handwriting is unclear.
